1. Which line of Spaniel do you intend to own?

English Springer Spaniels have two distinct lines – the working or field dog and the show or bench dog. Welsh Springer Spaniels have only one line, they can be trained to become field or show dogs.

2. What is the aspiration you have for your dogs? Do you intend to train them to take part in show competition or field competition?

A good strategy to search for show or bench Springer Spaniel breeders is to identify the top show Springer and located their breeders. If you are just expecting companionship from your dog, and are not prepared to go through the pressure of taking part in competitions, the selection will be thrown wide open for you to choose second and third tier of pure breeds or even mixed breeds.

Responsible and professional Springer Spaniel breeders emphasize quality over quantity. They work hard to conform to the official breed standard. They pay meticulous attention to the temperament and health of their dogs. They continue to learn and update their knowledge on the temperament and health of the dogs. They should not over breed their dogs. Always ask to see the OFA and CERF certification of the dogs and authenticate the certification online. Their puppies should be socialized and they should be able to walk you through their socializing process. They should be open and helpful to answer your questions and compassionate to assist you to choose a puppy that meets your objective.
